The Tilbury in Datchworth, nestled between the towns of Hertford, Stevenage & Welwyn Garden City, is a 2 AA rosette pub. The pub offers a relaxed approach to fine dining, serving refined British dishes, alongside great pub classics & an award winning wine list too. Come summer there is a larger terrace, garden & Tipi bar pop up for relaxed al fresco dining & live music nights.
The Tilbury is part of the Bain & Bridges group, which is owned & operated by brothers Tom & James Bainbridge, who took over the establishment in 2014. The duo have worked in the hospitality industry for a combined 30 years, bringing a wealth of experience to the business, ensuring you receive first class hospitality.
We serve an exciting modern British seasonal menu, which includes traditional & creative pub classics. The menu celebrates both seasonal & local ingredients, sourcing products from some of the countries finest suppliers. The kitchen is led by Co-owner & Executive Chef Tom, who also oversees food operations at their sister pub The White Hart, a 1 AA rosette pub in Welwyn Village.
Service is at the heart of what we do here at The Tilbury. You'll be welcomed by our Restaurant Manager Ellen, who alongside co-owner James, has trained a team that delivers high quality, yet unpretentious, welcoming & knowledgable service.

OUr Suppliers
We pride ourselves on working with our countries finest suppliers. Our meat is supplied from Aubrey Allen Butchers, butcher to the royal household. We work closely with them in sourcing high quality & varying cuts of meat that can be tailored to your event. Our fish is sourced from Flying Fish in Cornwall (who are also royally appointed!) specialise in small day boat catches, delivering high quality produce.
Where possible we champion our local suppliers & were in fact Dawlicious Ice Cream, based in Hertford Heath, first commercial customer. All of our cheese comes from award winning cheese shop The Cheese Plate in Buntingford, who offer an extensive range of both British & Continental cheeses. Finally, we wouldn’t be a catering company if we didn’t have a great wine supplier & this comes from James at Wine2Trade in Hertford. We work closely with him in curating our award winning wine list.
